The property is in a good location for access to Coin and other surrounding villages. Nearest restaurant/bar is 5 minutes drive, nearest beach is 40 minutes.
The pretty traditional village of Tolox is steeped in history, stands 315 metres above sea level, has a strong Moorish feel with whitewashed houses, Arabic roof tiling, steep narrow winding streets and beautifully coloured flowers. There are plenty of amenities including lovely bars, restaurants, shops, a supermarket, a baker, a butcher and a chemist.
The upper district of the village known as La Rinconada del Castillo is picturesque, this neighbourhood grew up where the castle walls used to be. There is a section of the walls and a passageway preserved from the ancient fortress.
The popular Spa which is quietly famous, this is open from May through to October. The waters known as “bitter waters” are used for therapeutic purposes since ancient times. There is also a historic church and two village squares. With beautiful scenery makes it an ideal location for walkers, mountain bikers and birdwatchers. A great starting point to explore the surrounding villages and towns such as Alozaina, Yunquera, Casarabonela, Ronda, Guaro, Monda, El Chorro and The Lakes. Coín is just 15 minute drive, 40 minutes to Málaga airport and 45 minutes to Marbella.
The village is on the boarder of Sierra de Las Nieves Natural Park, United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Biosphere, this area of immense ecological importance is home to the highest peak in the province of Malaga, La Torrecilla is 1919 metres above sea level.
Traditions are still a large part of the local life in the villages, with different festivals, fiestas and carnivals through the year:
The “Día de los Polvos” (Day of the Powder) is held a few days before Ash Wednesday to coincide with the carnivals. This is a traditional fiesta, especially for the young people where they hurl talcum powder at each other.
The patron saint fiestas in honour of San Roque are celebrated in mid-August. The saint’s procession is on the 16th August with a massive display of fireworks.
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th, the cowbell-themed festival “Día de las Mozas” is held, this involves running around ringing bells and making as much noise as possible.
How to Get There:
Take the A-357 to Cártama from Málaga. About 2 km past that village you must turn onto the A-355 in the direction of Coín and continue by way of the A-366 in the direction of Alozaina. 4 km short of Alozaina you will see the signs for the road that leads to Tolox.
